2nd Annual WOCF Pete Chronis Tribute Bandana Ride

The 2nd annual Bandana Ride continues to celebrate the life and legacy of our good friend, Pete Chronis. Pete was an avid cyclist, a generous supporter of countless organizations, and a cherished member of our community.

Those who rode with him will remember a signature detail: Pete always carried a bandana tucked into his cycling shorts to wipe his brow along the way. That familiar sight became a symbol of Pete's presence on every ride and inspired the name of this event. Through the Bandana Ride, we honor his memory and the lasting impact he had on all who knew him.

Our 2nd annual WOCF Pete Chronis Tribute Bandana Ride will take place SUNDAY, JULY 26th. We will depart from be. at 1 Wyoming Avenue at 9am on the route linked below.

We will visit Glendale Square, Fountain Square, Mt. Lookout Square, Hyde Park Square, Oakley Square and Hartwell Circle, ending at be. for smoothies, on us. No other stops are planned during the ride.

Please let us know if you plan on attending by RSVP’ing via email and signing the waiver digitally (link below).

ROUTE MAP:  the route will be mostly familiar to all of you – pretty flat, 40 miles on a quiet Sunday morning

The Wyoming Ohio Cycling Foundation’s 365 Annual Challenge is intended to encourage riders to commit to some level of contribution based on miles ridden throughout year. Whether it is based on $/mile or any other amount, we appreciate every donation.

As a member of WOCF, start tracking your miles, if you want to go that route, or decide what you can contribute annually.

WOCF presented a grant of over $11,000 to Valley Interfaith Community Resource Center from funds raised in 2017’s 365 Challenge.

Spring Classic Tour for Charity

The Wyoming Ohio Cycling Foundation’s Spring Classic Tour for Charity is a multi-stage team race for charity with both individual and team awards. It typically takes place over three weeks in late May to early June. Cyclists, who make a donation to participate, are divided into four evenly matched teams following the first day’s individual time trial. Cyclists earn points for each stage, which include hill climbs and team rides. Points are weighted towards participation and camaraderie rather than speed.

Team Determination: Teams are defined on the first day of the Tour after a three-mile long individual time trial along the Winton Woods Loop. To be sure teams are evenly matched, they are set up as follows:

  • Team A – 1, 8, 9, 16, 17, 24, . . .

  • Team B – 2, 7, 10, 15, 18, 23, . . .

  • Team C – 3, 6, 11, 14, 19, 22, . . .

  • Team D – 4, 5, 12, 13, 20, 21, . . .

Points: There are defined mid-stage sprint and hill “finish lines” (for example, a stop ahead sign makes for a great mid-stage finish line) where the top 8 riders across the “finish line” are awarded points.

No Rider Left Behind: We are committed to a “no rider left behind” policy; therefore, there are defined “stop and re-gather” points along the way.

Awards:

Best Team – Team with the highest point total. Originally, this team determined the charities to receive the participation and sponsorship donations; however, after several years, we began to include all of the teams in this decision.

Best Rider Individual

Fastest Sprinter Individual

Fastest Hill Climber Individual

Best Silver Rider (participants 55 years of age and older)
